maps & atlases photoGeography was my second favorite class in college. That’s not why I’m really digging the new Maps & Atlases track, “Winter,” though. (Also, I’ve never been a fan of the term “math rock,” probably because I suck at math.)

I think it has more to do with the pulsing, toe-tap-inducing beat. Or maybe it’s the plaintive lyrics contrasted by the propelling and downright giddy melody and guitar interplay. It could be the chant-like vocals during the closing seconds.

Regardless, it’s one hell of a song that’s absolutely free for you to download this very minute at the Rolling Stone website. It’s the first taste of their new album Beware and Be Grateful on Barsuk.

Planning for Fareveller 2012 is well on its way. Yeah…we’re excited too. Stay tuned to the site as we’ll be releasing the line-up in the next few weeks. Even as we get started, and I can already guarantee that you’ll be pleased.

We are also very happy to introduce our latest sponsors for the festival. Stoli Vodka and Sailor Jerry have stepped up and declared that Memphis and indie music are two things that are worth supporting! Please do us a favor and welcome them to the Fareveller family, perhaps by taking advantage of some of their holiday cheer.

If you’re new to Fareveller, here’s our promo video from last year’s festival. We’re keeping it up until we announce the lineup for 2012. Why? Because we think the video is just that great!
